Like a Good Melon

I had this whole plan of painting my bedroom and bathroom a light shade of grey; something neutral, relaxing and easy to mix with anything and everything.

Somehow, my bedroom ended up purple instead. Don’t ask me how it happened.

There I was at Lowe’s, scrutinizing over paint colors like I was on another sofa hunt and nothing was clicking with me. After forty-five minutes and a long conversation with the paint department attendant as to why I need my own HGTV show, I left with six, yes six, paint samples to try out in my room.

Of course when I got home, I immediately chucked three of them into a utility closet, never to be seen again, as I had already changed my mind. I tried out the three purple colors with grey undertones that I had chosen on a whim (and by whim, I mean I could feel the paint attendant breathing down my neck waiting for me to make a decision)

Like any paint color, it looks different in every type of light. Lo and behold, they all looked like the paint version of The Brady Bunch - all slightly related, but not all that similar.

Since I was now feeling this purple-grey, I logically chose the pinkest option of the three. I just had this gut reaction to it. I knew the way you know about a good melon.

Apart from the painting fiasco involving my hair, carpet and ceiling, I am decently proud of myself for my spur-of-the-moment color choice.

Ignore the paint smudges on the ceiling.

Here's hoping I can make mauve work:
